CEOs are tasked with running their companies in the most uncertain economic climate in years. At the same time, research indicates that shareholders tolerate failure less than before. Between 1997 and 2006, average tenure for departing CEOs in the US declined from 10 to 8 years. The 40 percent of CEOs with the shortest tenure had less than 2 years in the position.

Can collective intelligence save the planet? "It's the only hope we have," says Prof. Thomas Malone, adding that "no one really knows whether we'll succeed." He launched the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence in 2006 in part to learn how to harness the collective intelligence of the planet to help solve the world's biggest problems, problems too big to be solved by any one expert or group. The goal of the Center is to combine pooled human brainpower with new information technologies "to solve problems in ways that would never have been thinkable before."

El mundo de la energía está en una encrucijada por el problema de la falta de independencia energética de los países y la seguridad del suministro, así como el cambio climático, presente en todas las agendas de los gobiernos. Esto ha generado un debate sobre el mix energético más conveniente para los países que contempla, entre otros, el uso de la energía nuclear y de las renovables, junto con empresas más fuertes y comprometidas con el cambio climático. Éstas y otras cuestiones salieron a relucir en un panel sobre el futuro de la energía que tuvo lugar en el reciente Wharton Global Alumni Forum de Madrid.
